This vegan dish is full of flavor and perfect for a quick and easy dinner. The crispy tofu and the spicy black pepper sauce make for a delicious combination. Serve over rice or noodles for a complete meal.
Ingredients:
- 14 oz / 400 g extra-firm tofu
- 1 onion, sliced
- 4 cloves garlic, minced
- 1/2 inch ginger, minced
- 1/2 green bell pepper, chopped
- 1/2 red bell pepper, chopped
- 1 tablespoon onion powder
- 1 tablespoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon paprika
- 1/2 tablespoon cornstarch
- 3 tablespoon sesame oil
- 2 tablespoon soy sauce
- 1 tablespoon brown sugar
- 1 tablespoon hoisin sauce
- 12 tablespoon black pepper
- 1/4 cup / 60 ml veg stock
Instructions:
- Put tofu into a press for up to 20 minutes, or wrap with paper towels with a weight on-top to remove moisture.
- Slice vegetables.
- Once moisture removed from tofu, slice into cubes and place into a large mixing bowl.
- Season tofu with onion powder and garlic powder.
- Add cornstarch and toss tofu to combine equally.
- Add sesame oil to a saucepan over medium heat.
- Add tofu pieces and fry each side until crispy.
- Add sesame oil to a wok (or use the same saucepan) over medium heat.
- Add onions, garlic, ginger and peppers to pan and fry until soft.
- Add soy sauce, brown sugar, hoisin sauce, black pepper, veg stock and mix together.
- Add crispy fried tofu pieces and mix together in sauce.
- Sprinkle with chopped green onions and serve over rice or noodles.
